2. Inspect magnet starter switch continuity
Inspect the following items with an electrical tester.
 
(1) Continuity between terminal 50 and terminal C (Continuity check in the pull-in coil).
 
  (2) Continuity between terminal 50 and the switch body (Continuity check in the hold-in coil).
HINT:
 
The hold-in coil connects terminal 50 and switch body. If the hold-in coil is normal, there is continuity between the terminal and switch body.
 
When the hold-in coil is open, the plunger is pulled in, but is not held, so the pinion gear repeatedly engages and disengages.
