Operation

The control valve alters the pressure in the swash plate chamber depending on the cooling load, which changes the swash plate angle using the guide pin and the shaft as a fulcrum. This in turn alters the piston stroke in order to control the compressor output based on the cooling load.

When the cooling load is smaller (when the interior temperature is low)
|
| As the cooling load decreases, the pressure in the low pressure chamber also decreases. The control valve then opens as the pressure in the control valve bellows exceeds that in the low pressure chamber, causing the bellows to expand. The pressure in the high pressure chamber then enters the swash plate chamber. Consequently, the pressure applied behind the piston increases and as a result, the piston stroke decreases in line with the decreased cooling load. |

REFERENCE:
There are 2 methods used to change the compressor output on variable capacity compressors; one method is via the control valve mentioned above and the other is a solenoid valve control type.
