Piston ring end gap
Use the piston to push the piston ring into the cylinder, make the ring horizontal, and then use a thickness gauge to take a measurement at the specified position, which is the position where the ring wear is least.
If this end gap is too large, compression pressure will leak from the gap.
If this end gap is too small, when the piston ring expands, its junction and/or the inner walls of the cylinder could be damaged by contact of the end gap.
 
HINT:
To measure the end gap under actual installation conditions, insert the piston ring into the cylinder.
