To check the starter operation, apply voltage directly from the battery and check the following starter functions individually.

Pull-In Test

Hold-In Test

Check Pinion Gear Clearance

Pinion Return Test

No-Load Test
NOTICE:
•
Applying battery voltage to the starter for longer than 3 to 5 seconds could damge the solenoid coils.
•
Also perform the above tests in the order listed above, since they are intended to check the successive operation of the starter.
•
Understand the procedure well before beginning inspection.
