3. Starter armature insulation and continuity check
Using an electrical tester, conduct the following inspections.
•
 Insulation between the commutator and the armature core.
HINT:
Insulation is required between the armature core and armature coil, and the commutator is connected to the armature coil. In a servicable armature there should be no continuity between the commutator and the armature core.
 
• Continuity between the segments of the commutator.
