The gears are mounted on the output shaft via
the bearing. When the inner diameter of the gears and the outer diameter of the
shaft are worn the radial clearance is increased. This makes it difficult for
the gear to be properly engaged and will cause an abnormal noise.
1.
Visually inspect 1st and 2nd gears
(1)
Verify whether there are any scratches or physical
damage on the contact surface of the shaft.
(2)
Verify whether there is any change of colour where the gear cone and the synchronizer ring cone come in contact.
2.
Measure inner diameter of 1st and 2nd
gears
Use a cylinder gauge to measure the inner diameter of the gears
over several locations.
