| Verify whether there are any scratches
or physical damage on the contact surfaces of the shaft. |

Measure outer diameter of reverse idle gear shaft

Use a micrometer to measure the outer diameter
of the shaft by measuring the circumference over several locations.

HINT:
Make sure measurement is carried out on area of shaft in contact with rotating parts ie area which will be subject to greatest wear. |
