Rotate the crankshaft to move the No.1 cylinder to TDC (Top Dead Centre)/Compression.
HINT:
Align the crankshaft pulley timing
mark and timing chain cover timing mark so that the No.1 cylinder's valve intake
and exhaust are both closed.
(2)
Measure the clearance between the cam and the lifter where the valve is closed. Refer to repair manual to identify the valve clearances checked in this crankshaft position.
(3)
Insert a thickness gauge into the gap and read the thickness
value indicated on the gauge when there is the least resistance when the gauge
is pulled straight out.
(4)
Turn the crankshaft one rotation and measure the clearance
of the other valves.
NOTICE:
Using force to insert the thickness
gauge into the gap may bend the gauge.
