Visual inspection |
| Visually check how much carbon has
adhered to the bottom of the valve and check whether the oil loss is via the piston
ring or that of the valve guide. |

| HINT: |

If carbon has adhered to the lower surface of the valve, oil has been lost via the piston ring, so check the piston clearance and piston ring. |

If carbon has adhered to the upper surface of valve, oil loss
via the valve guides occurs, so check the valve guide bushing oil clearance. |
