Inspect outside diameter of commutator |
| Using vernier calipers, measure the
outside diameter of the commutator. |

| HINT: |
Commutator wear occurs due to the normal contacts with the brushes while turning.
If the measurement exceeds the specified wear limit, contact with the brush will be reduced, which will cause a reduction of current flow. As a result, starter output will be reduced or result in a complete stater failure. |
