Measure slip rings |

Using vernier calipers, measure the outside diameter of the slip rings. |

| HINT: |

If the measurement exceeds the specified wear limit, replace
the rotor. |

The slip ring and brushes are in constant contact to allow the generated current to flow to the rectifier..
For this reason if the measurement exceeds the specified wear limit, contact with the brushes will be reduced, which will cause a reduction of current flow. As a result, alternator output will be reduced or result in a complete alternator failure.. |
