To calculate the clearance between the hub
sleeve and the shift fork, use vernier calipers to measure the width of the hub
sleeve (A) and the thickness of the shift fork (B) over several locations.

On a C-type transaxle, the reverse gear and hub sleeve are assembled into one unit.

When the clearance value is exceeded, the gears
will not engage smoothly because stroke is insufficient.
