Inspect Hub Sleeve and Shift Fork

1. Visually inspect
Check for scratches or physical damage to the areas of the shift fork and the hub sleeve that come in contact.

2. Measure clearance between hub sleeve and shift fork
To calculate the clearance between the hub sleeve and the shift fork, use vernier calipers to measure the width of the hub sleeve (A) and the thickness of the shift fork (B) over several locations.
clearance (C) = (A) - (B)

HINT:
On a C-type transaxle, the reverse gear and hub sleeve are assembled into one unit.
When the clearance value is exceeded, the gears will not engage smoothly because stroke is insufficient.
