Measure clearance between gear and synchronizer
ring
|
|
Apply pressure to the gear and synchronizer
ring with the hands. While maintaining this pressure, use a thickness gauge to
measure the clearance around the entire circumference.
|
HINT:
As the inner surface circumference of the synchronizer ring
wears, the ring tends to cave in towards the gears thereby closing the clearance
distance between the gear and synchronizer ring. |

|
|
Apply pressure to the synchronizer ring to install
it with the cone of gear by hand. Then make sure that the synchronizer ring does
not slip when applying force in the turning direction.
